Do you honour your menstrual cycle? Do you slow down when you bleed and work on your best creations when you ovulate?
If you don’t, it is time to start. Lucky for you, you have come to the right place. It is time to bring awareness to your menstrual cycle and honour the different stages of your cycle.
Join me and let’s start bringing consciousness back to our body.
Raising consciousness around your cycle
As we mentioned in the blog about the moon and our cycle, around 25% of women bleed at the one time. This of course suggests a less of a collective then our ancestors experienced.
The lower statistics invites us all to open up to the connection with the moon. To raise our consciousness to the moon through letting go and renewing our opportunity twice in a month - through our menstrual cycle and the lunar cycle.
There are so many questions around connecting with your menstrual cycle and the lunar cycle. What it really is all about is, connecting back within and being conscious of the change in the moon cycle. Bring your attention to yourself, to the lunar cycle and live in alignment with both. If you are looking to line your cycle back to the moon it comes down to first honouring your cycle and each phase of it.
Things are how they are meant to be
One thing you always need to remember is - we talk about the messages and the alignment with the lunar phase - but your cycle is a reflection of your life journey. It is never “wrong”. Your cycle will tell you more about the stage of life you are at and your health. Listen to these messages.
Of course, we will always read more about how our cycle should be and what “should” happen. But right now, it is how it should be. Always be curious about your cycle and what it is telling you.
Be in touch with your inner wisdom
During our period and when we are bleeding, we are more tired. When we sleep during this time we may even dream more. It is common to have prophetic dreams during this time - this is why your body will tell you you are tired, so you sleep more and have more dreams.
So when you come back from your bleeding stage of your menstrual cycle, hopefully you have some lessons brought from your inner wisdom. During the traditional Native American Moonlodge, the community would always wait for the wisdom that would come when a woman would return from their ‘moontime’ retreat. These women would come back with information that they all needed to survive.
The wisdom of the feminine should always be honoured.

Some women will feel more sexual just before bleeding. This is because the vulva and vagina are more filled with blood. This fullness will be felt around the pelvic area and because the level of oestrogen and progesterone are lower, the testosterone levels are higher (and are responsible for our libido).
Be aware of the symptoms that come up during your menstrual cycle. This usually is a direct result of your state of health. What you think, what you eat and what you do to your body all plays a role in the symptoms you experience when you bleed. Eating a good diet, getting regular exercise (or yoga) and meditation can all lead to a balance when it comes to your menstrual cycle.
If you do experience symptoms during your menstrual cycle, try getting in touch with an Ayurveda practitioner. Or come and join the Goddess Embodiment Sisterhood to be able to bring awareness to your doshas, your imbalances & bring yourself back into balance, alignment & ignite your inner goddess & heal yourself.
How to honour your menstrual cycle
There are flows of energy throughout your cycle and this energy will give us guidance on how we need to honour it. It is a good idea to let people you surround yourself with (especially live with) that you will change the way you go about your life while you bleed. This is so they can support you as well.
Week 1 - Retreat from the hecticness of the world - even if it is just in the evening. Have a bath with essential oils (my recommendation is rose or geranium).
Have your own ‘moonlodge’ or red tent - this really is a state of mind as well as the physical space.
Wear crystals while you bleed as a symbol. Here are some you might want to wear:
Moonstone: helps with balance and healing
Carnelian: is specific to your sacral chakra and helps balance the female organs
You can wear these in jewellery form.
This is a time to draw, paint, meditate and nourish your body with good food. During this time you also want to be kind to yourself!!
Week 2 - this is the time for creative energy and flow. Express yourself sexually, treat yourself. This is a time to celebrate your ovulation and the energy you will receive.
Week 3 - now you can celebrate what you have created or achieved during your cycle. Let go of what you didn’t and don’t be hard on yourself. Don’t start anything new, work on finishing things off.
Week 4 - start preparing for the time of bleeding. Adjust your plans around your period and prepare for a time of retreat.
Make soup, slow down and start imagining your next cycle.
Start paying attention and get ready to honour your menstrual cycle.
Bring consciousness back to your cycle.
Here is what you need to do:

It is time to start honouring the beauty of your body and how it can help your mind, body and spirit.
